Mystery Coins and Tesla Trash Cans

1700s mystery coin

Good morning, coin lovers!!

Especially those coin *collecting* lovers! ;)

I just got a new collection to inventory and evaluate (WOO!!!), and inside it I found that bad boy above just waiting to be brought into the light of day again. After 300 years of being passed around – and through some pretty TOUGH times from the looks of it! – it’s now settled at the bottom of an old raggedy bag just wishing it could be useful again, womp womp…

And unfortunately, just like modern coinage it probably never will be 😢

But… At least for today, we can show it some love by clicking over to my coin collecting blog to learn all about it!! That’s right – I have a coin collecting blog too!

CoinThrill.com

Fun Fact: The more you click the happier the coin gets!

Fun Fact II: If you have any coins yourself that you’d like to learn more about and/or sell, I offer coin evaluation services so just give me a shout and I’d be honored to serve you too. 🙌

In other news, I have two new blog posts on BudgetsAreSexy! I’ve been a writing machine!! ;)

The first was pulled from a recent interview I did on early retirement – and specifically on what to watch out for before jumping in – and the other is a new giveaway going on right now of a gaggle of new money books that have recently hit the shelves…

You can find both new blog posts here:

3 Things You Should Never Do in Retirement

6 New Books on The Scene! [GIVEAWAY]

And as always, you can scroll below for some other great articles I’ve found around the community lately! Thanks so much for being here all these years! 🖤

I launched this newsletter back in November of 2018, and it’s been a fun outlet and extra way for me to connect with y’all so hopefully you’ve been enjoying it just the same :) And if not, all you gotta do is click that “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of these notes! I won’t hate you too much for it!

100 Ways to Slightly Improve Your Life

    j money doodle

    Hi friends!

Remember me?? Your on and off again budgeting boyfriend?

It’s been a minute, but I’m back in action and ready to have some fun again :) Too much yoga and volunteering made me forget about this whole internet thing! Haha… I’ve also been immersed in way too many ridiculous challenges, like:

    • Not having coffee for 123 days straight (!!!)
    • Not having alcohol for 101 days (what?)
    • Meditating every day for 31 days (the best)
    • Standing upside down every day for 21 days (the silliest)
    • Not applying ChapStick to my lips for 77 days – because I’ve been addicted for 20+ years and don’t even know why as my lips have been perfectly fine without it!
    • And my current challenge: only using my smart phone for communicating and not scrolling the interwebs – 50 days in a row!Though I’ll admit I have slipped once or twice when I just HAD to google a random fact that didn’t change my life in the least, lol….

So I’ve been active! Just keeping myself busy in other – offline – areas these days :) If you’d like to read more (I swear it’s not just to deprive myself of the luxuries of life!), check out my latest blog post here:

    Challenge Mode Activated

I also penned a fun poem for a friend’s site the other week, which you can read here if you’re into such things:

    What Wealth Means (To Me)

Lastly, I’ll also showcase some of my recent podcasts down below, as well as my favorite articles I’ve read lately in the hopes it might inspire you a little… Which is really the whole point of this newsletter and anything else I pass over to you really…

None of this stuff is about ME, it’s about YOU!

I share things through personal experience, but that’s because it’s the only way I really now how. So hopefully it all comes across okay… Contrary to what one Super Fan once said, I’m really not a “bragging c*nt who is rich and should talk less before the rest of us kill and eat him.” lolol…

Hate mail at its finest 😂

At any rate, thanks for reading and subscribing over the years! I hope you’re doing well and would love to hear what you’ve been up to this year! Hit “reply” and lemme know!

Yours in money, and all things life hacks (just please don’t eat me),

Fit Rich Life: Budgets Are Sexy, Blogging, Making Money Online, Building an Ideal Lifestyle & More — Justin David Carl and I chat about making money online, creating the ideal *lifestyle* (more important than the money!), mohawks (his is pretty cool!), overcoming sickness, and more.

Mindy on Money: Life After FI (With A Working Partner) — “J. Money from Budgets Are Sexy talks about financial independence, unexpected sickness, and navigating early retirement with a working partner.” (Basically – is my wife cool with me doing yoga and playing around all day long while she works??? 😂)

The Get Ready Money Podcast: Live The Life You Want — Tony Steuer and I hop on YouTube and discuss:

    • Focusing on your dream lifestyle and what makes you happy
    • Realizing that the less you spend, the less you need to earn!
    • Being more conscious with your money (and tracking where it all goes!)
    • Setting up simple systems and considering minimalism.

The C Word via Humble Dollar — The saddest, bravest, article I’ve read in years… Jonathan Clements shares to the world that he has cancer and doesn’t have much longer to live :( But until the end will be blogging his heart out and sharing what he’s doing to wrap up a long, beautiful life… I can’t stop reading every last article of this because they mean so much MORE knowing they’re some of his last!! Gosh…

Creating From Lack vs Creating From Love via George Poulos — “Pinning our self-worth to an uncontrollable outcome—namely, how other people will respond to our work—we strap ourselves in to a painful emotional rollercoaster of highs & lows.  We are lost.  But there’s a much better way.  It’s to create from love.”

[I started following George’s stuff cuz he’s a rad skateboarder and films himself doing all kinds of cool tricks in various parks… Then he started sharing thoughts on life in general, especially around creativity, and now I’m even more hooked on him. How to Declutter Books: 2 Methods to Minimize Your Collection via Rich in What Matters — “Minimalism has shown me that a book is like your favorite coffee… You sip it, you enjoy it, you consume it… and then you move on. The mug doesn’t come home with you. You’ve already ingested its contents; its purpose has been served. The same goes for a book: you read it, you consume its contents, and then you pass it on.”

How J. Money’s Finance Blog Made Him a Millionaire via Flip My Site — “Many people start blogs and other online businesses with dreams of becoming millionaires. Today we have a story featuring an “accidental entrepreneur” who started a blog for fun and accountability, but ultimately became a millionaire when he sold the blog 11 years later.” [Had to plug this, sorry ;)]

Push The Fence via Raptitude — “You can start with as little as five minutes and build up your capacity for patience, over time. Start by saying to yourself, “Okay, for the next five minutes I won’t allow myself to be bothered by anything. I’ll be patient.” What you’ll discover is truly amazing. Your intention to be patient, especially if you know it’s only for a short while, immediately strengthens your capacity for patience.”

Beware the Dopamine Cartel via Retirement Manifesto — Fritz shares his concerns over what social media is doing to us all (hint: it leads to depression!), and includes a passage of mine relating to my No Phone Scrolling challenge… Along with one of my favorite tips for looking at your phone less: wearing a watch!

Hope: The Most Valuable Commodity via Femme Frugality — “Sure, money can solve problems. But it’s not the paper itself that makes life easier to live. It’s what’s behind that paper. It’s the belief that we can do better for ourselves. It’s the belief that the stressors in our lives will find relief. It is hope.”

      i met you today

      Morning, friends!

Happy New(ish) Year! Finally getting used to writing “2024” on checks and coming to terms with being a year older now…

      OK just kidding – I haven’t written a check since 2014! 🤣

I did finally remember to tell you about a new project I created though! It’s called “I Met You Today“, and I just blogged about it over at BudgetsAreSexy:

A New Project To Say “Thank You.”

It’s the first time my friend (Nate) and I built something for a single person instead of the whole *world*… But it’s been great so far! Check it out and let me know what you think!

I was also recently on a podcast as well if you miss hearing my voice*:

In other news, I’m still flowing/veggie drinking/yoga’ing and all that other good stuff! I think after a handful of months they can all now officially be called “habits” – woo! The power of compounding actions!! Gotta get them going and then it’s just *one day at a time* from there!

And hopefully your string of days are treating you great as well :) If I can ever help with anything, just let me know! I got plenty of room for coaching or brainstorming or just talking with an online friend this month. You know where to reach me 👊

I think it will take a few months for various features to get pulled into Mint (if Intuit is serious about Credit Karma being a Mint successor) but if this is its final form, you need to look elsewhere.”

        Good morning friends!!

Happy December 16th! Exactly 10 days away from my birthday, and 9 from someone else’s ;)

Fun Fact: I was actually *supposed* to be born on the 25th, but being the nice guy I was I let the Big Guy have it all to himself and forced my poor mother to continue laboring for an additional 7 hours on top of the already 20 just to be in the clear. So now we have one world-renown day on the 25th (Happy early bday, JC!) and another one back to back on the 26th (Happy early bday, J$!)

So yeah, it’s always one very festive season around here! And I do hope you have a merry one with you and your loved ones this year! 🎄

Whenever you need some good down time, pull up one of these hand-picked articles below and get refreshed all over again… Just doing ONE of any of the tips listed here has the power to change your 2024!! Life is still so full of opportunities for us! We just gotta keep on being *open* to them!

Will see ya around here again shortly… Until then, be safe, be merry, be sexy!

PS: That Santa painting up top was my very first piece of “art” I ever bought, back in the Love Drop days if any of you are still around from back then? Spent $300 on it and get to bring it out every year to enjoy!! Much to the dismay of my wife who thinks it looks awfully depressing, haha… I think he’s just pondering a well lived life! ;)

How to Change Your Life One Week at a Time @ A Lawyer and Her Money — “Over a decade ago, I vowed to do at least one new experience every week (“one new thing a week” or ONTAW). I had some ideas for what kinds of “new” things I would do but for the majority of the times, anything new counted, whether planned or not. Living More Intentionally by Thinking Less @ No Sidebar — “You may think that being distracted means you’ll think less, but when you engage in things like social media you’re actually making choices every second: Do I watch this video, do I comment on this post, what do I say, what do I think about this message, and a thousand other decisions throughout the day. By the end of the day, you don’t have the mental energy to plan for tomorrow.”

Frugal vs. Independent @ Collab Fund — “Most people are wired to seek status and success, not necessarily happiness. It’s remarkable to watch someone fight back against that trend. From the outside they appear frugal. But in fact they’ve rejected what the world tells them they should want and looked deeper, finding their happiness elsewhere.”

Do You Live in an Ingredient Household? @ The Frugal Girl — “It’s a home that stocks mostly, well, ingredients, instead of ready-to-eat foods. Like, instead of oatmeal packets, you might have jars of oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and there’s milk in your fridge. You can eat oatmeal for breakfast, but you do have to make it… Basically, if you open the fridge and pantry, there’s not much that you can just grab and eat.”

        Investing Is A Double-Edged Sword @ A Teachable Moment — “We have bigger houses but smaller families;

André 3000 Talks His New Album and Life After Outkast @ GQ (via YouTube) — “It’s been years since rap legend André 3000 released new music. Now, on his own creative terms, he’s unveiling his first solo project—and talking candidly about where he’s been, how he’s changed, and why he made a record (New Blue Sun) that nobody could have expected.”

I love this so much because he’s just DOING HIS THING!! Releasing a record with *wind instruments* only and no lyrics whatsoever despite being one of the best rappers of all time… So much wisdom and PEACE in his vibes too – he knows what he’s about!

        Have a blessed week 🙏
